Contemporary Holiday Home, North Donegal, Ireland

The house is conceived as a simple form set within the dramatic rocky and wild landscape of North Donegal. It is a split level house presenting a single storey modern form to the road edge to reduce visual impact from public view while enjoying a dramatic hidden lower level to the sea facing aspect of the house opening up to the dramatic North Atlantic Ocean.

It is a house that grows out of the rock face and utilises corten steel to give a weathered rustic appearance that sits comfortably in the rocky coastal wind swept location. It commands vast panoramic views sea ward from its open plan living space with a west facing terrace cantilevering out over the rocky hillside. It is a new expression of Irish coastal architecture that seeks to move on the tired aesthetic and poor design choices that more than often blight this dramatic and beautiful landscape.

This house is currently in the design phase.
