Wilson McMullen Architects are delighted to be working closely with C&V Developments Ltd on a significant tourism development adjacent to the start/finish line of the ever popular racing circuit of the NW200 on Ballyreagh Road, Portstewart. Wilson McMullen Architects carried out an initial feasibility study and masterplan for the site to explore the various development opportunities that would ensure high quality and sympathetic design, as well as significant economic investment to the area. This initial masterplan has developed and pre-application discussions with the Council and members of the public have now taken place, with Ferguson Planning recently lodging the Planning Application in October 2016.

This is a very prestigious and important landmark project for the North Coast. As someone who has grown up on the dramatic North coast and now returned to live and work here permanently, it is very rewarding to be offered the opportunity to create a significant piece of architecture so close to home. The unique nature of this project and its importance in giving this internationally renowned event, a long awaited permanent home within its natural base, is an exciting and invigorating prospect. One that we will approach from both a professional and personal perspective and dedication, to ensure a positive and exciting design for a truly remarkable location and coastline. Ben Wilson

Commenting on the initial feasibility plans, Vivienne Gilholm from C&V Developments Ltd said:

“I am really excited about being able to work again in the area of the North Antrim coast. When coming home over the years to visit family, it’s been clear that resources are rich alive and thriving in both the industrious hardworking people and also in the outstanding natural beauty right across the area. We see this project as building on the infectious energy that has always made Portrush and Portstewart so popular and feel that this development will reflect the high standard of natural attractions and sporting events that are already here and happening – with its location and views the hotel will become a unique destination in itself. For us it is clear that the NW200 has a heartbeat driven by the dedication and hard work of the many local volunteers and we are lucky to be able to work with Mervyn and Fergus in giving it a permanent home.”

Commenting on the what this means to the North West 200, Mervyn Whyte MBE said:

“Coleraine & District Motor Club Ltd. as the organising body for the Vauxhall International North West 200, is delighted to be working alongside C&V Developments in realising the creation of a permanent home for this world famous road race now entering its 87th year of running. This is a truly exciting proposition for the NW200 in developing an administration facility, exhibition space and heritage centre to ensure that all the great stories that have unfolded over the many years racing can be displayed and shared for many years to come. I am personally very excited that this project provides the NW200 with a unique opportunity to create a constant presence at its true home on the North Coast as well as provide much needed leisure and hospitality services in the area.”
